Cultural Education Program

The Cultural Centre of Norway House provides programs to the membership of the Norway House Cree Nation. The Cultural Education Program objectives are as follows:

  • To research the history of Norway House.
  • To continue working on the central collection of print archival material in Norway House and collecting photos for gallery of historical photo collection.
  • To develop cultural awareness by offering handicraft classes on beadwork, moccasins, mitts and gauntlets. Demonstration classes on traditional skills in ice fishing, trapping and hunting are also held on a seasonal basis. Classes are also held on preparing and cooking wild meat.
  • To establish a lending library with a focus on Native Studies.

The Cultural Education Program receives funding from the First Nation Confederacy of Cultural Education Centers (FNCCEC). Each year a proposal is submitted to FNCCEC to keep the Cultural Education Program operating. The amount that is received from FNCCEC is $72,124.00. Out of this revenue we cover the salaries of the cultural education instructor and librarian.
